A Real Life Saver!
We often use the idea of saving our lives when we don't really mean it in the
literal sense. If a friend at work got us out of a difficult or embarrassing
situation, we might say - "Thanks - you really saved my life!"
That's one way of talking about a life saver, but the Bible tells us about
someone who is a REAL Life Saver. The very name of JESUS means - one who is
able to save - even from death.
Many people will tell you what they think about death and an after life - Jesus
can tell us with certainty because he is the one who has experienced it. After
he had died and had risen from the dead, Jesus said:
"I hold in my hand the keys of death and the grave!" (Revelation 1:18 -
J.B.Philips Version)
Jesus appealed to people to believe in him, he said:
"I am the resurrection and the life - he that believeth in me, though he die,
yet shall he live!" (John 11:25 - RV)
The Bible also tells us when this resurrection to life will happen. The
resurrection of Jesus was the firstfruit, "afterward they that are Christ's at
his coming." (1 Corinthians 15:23)
If we belong to Jesus he can save us from death by raising us from the dead when
he comes back to the earth. Yes, the Bible's plain message is that Jesus is
coming back - the New Testament refers to it more than two hundred times.
When Jesus does come he will have the power and the right to rule the world in
justice and in peace. Our world is in a mess, the whole earth needs a
life-saver to stop us from destroying our precious environment. The Bible tells
us that Jesus will do just that.
When Jesus came the first time he suffered and was crucified, yet because of
what he suffered then, he is now able to save us. In his own words, he gave his
flesh for the life of the world.
Yes, Jesus Christ can be a real life-saver to you! But what do we have to do?
